1 Day Acuvue Moist vs. Oasys: Which One Will You Pick?

21st Oct 2024

Acuvue is known for its innovative contact lenses, and two of its most popular options—1 Day Acuvue Moist and 1 Day Acuvue Oasys—have been customer favourites for a reason.

If you prefer a quick visual guide, we’ve got an infographic ready for you. But if you're looking for an in-depth comparison, stick around! We'll break down everything you need to know about these two lenses, including what our customers are saying to help you make the best choice for your eyes.

What’s the Difference Between 1-Day Acuvue Oasys and Acuvue Moist?

Technology

The technology in Acuvue Oasys and Acuvue Moist contact lenses plays a key role in keeping your eyes comfortable and hydrated. The goal is to address common issues: dryness, irritation, and the need for consistent hydration to make lenses more comfortable for longer wear.

Studies have shown that HydraLuxeᵀᴹ Technology in 1-Day Acuvue Oasys helps maintain moisture in challenging conditions, such as extended screen time or dry environments. Meanwhile, Lacreon® technology in Acuvue Moist embeds moisture into the lens itself to ensure consistent hydration throughout the day.

Material

Material is directly related to breathability in contact lenses. Silicone hydrogel (used in Acuvue Oasys) allows more oxygen to pass through the lens, which is more breathable and reduces the risk of dryness or irritation during extended wear. Hydrogel (used in Acuvue Moist) is less breathable and has lower Dk/t than silicone hydrogel, making it better suited for shorter wear.

The breathability of lenses is important for maintaining healthy eyes, as it ensures oxygen can flow freely to the cornea, similar to the natural state when you're not wearing lenses. However, the best option depends on your needs, such as how long you wear lenses and the environment you’re mostly exposed to.

UV Protection

Acuvue Oasys offers stronger UV protection and coverage with Class 1 UV protection, blocking over 90% of UVA and 99% of UVB rays.

Acuvue Moist, with Class 2 UV protection, blocks around 82% of UVA and 97% of UVB rays.

While these lenses offer significant protection, they should not be considered a substitute for sunglasses or hats, as contact lenses do not cover the entire eye and surrounding area. Wearing sunglasses and a hat is always recommended.

Which ACUVUE is best for dry eyes?

If you have particularly dry eyes, Acuvue Oasys 1-Day is often a better choice because it retains moisture longer, providing extra hydration in dry or challenging environments. It offers a more intense solution for dryness compared to Acuvue Moist, which still does a good job but is less suited for extreme conditions. Consult with your optometrist to seek expert advice based on your lifestyle and eye health,

How long can you wear Acuvue Moist?

With Acuvue Moist, you’re good for around 14 hours of comfortable wear. It’s designed for daily use, so each lens is fresh and hygienic. Of course, it’s always a good idea to stick to your optometrist’s advice on wearing schedules, but you can expect all-day comfort without the worry of dryness setting in.

Which one is more expensive?

In general, Acuvue Oasys 1-Day tends to be a bit pricier than Acuvue Moist, mostly due to its advanced moisture technology and higher oxygen permeability. But the choice really depends on what your eyes need.
